Akeelah is an 11-year-old girl who participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is a student at Crenshaw High School, in south Los Angeles. Akeelah is a bright student, but she has been skipping class and is barely passing. Akeelah Anderson's life is not easy. Her father was died, and her mom ignores her. Her principal is about to put her detention when he persuades her to enter the Crenshaw school's spelling bee. Akeelah wins the spelling-bee and now she can go to the state contest. The principal has asked Dr. Larabee to help coach Akeelah.. He is a college professor and former national spelling-bee contestant. At first, Akeelah is stubborn and hardheaded that she doesn't need any help to win the next spelling-bee. However, Dr. Larabee shows Akeelah that she doesn't know all the words to win. During the summer, Dr. Larabee is a tough taskmaster teaching Akeelah as much as he can. Akeelah learns all the words, and makes it to the national spelling-bee in Washington D.C. Douglas Young. Akeelah could provide her community with someone to rally around and be proud, but only if she can overcome her insecurities and her distracting home life. She also must get past Dr. Larabee's demons, and a field of more experienced and privileged fellow spellers.
The day for competition was coming. She goes to Southern California Regional Spelling with Dr. Larabee and Mr Welch. She followed the national spelling-bee in Washington D.C. Douglas Young. Last night she falsified her parent signature for parental consent form letter because she knows that her mother doesn't like she follow it. Unfortunately, her mother also went to Southern California. When she met Akeelah, she was angry to Akeelah, but after Dr. Larabee talked with her. She allowed Akeelah to follow it. Then, she saw the Akeelah action when she is spelling word by word. She is proud with her daughter’s achievement.
Finally, Akeelah and Dylan (another participate) won the national spelling-bee in Washington D.C. Douglas Young.
The moral value of this movie is to get the best, we must do our best. We must study every time, and never be an arrogant person. Life is not easy, we must be patient, positive thinking, believe that what’s we get is the best for us. Like as Akeelah, her life is not easy, but she is successful passing all of her problems.
Don’t miss to watch it…
